Dobratsch at 2,167 metres is the local mountain, the Gerlitzen lies opposite, and the Faaker See and the Ossiacher See are a good 15 minutes away by car. Cyclists find two long-distance routes right on the doorstep. The Drauradweg runs straight through the town, the Alpe-Adria-Radweg links Salzburg with Grado. The stage from Villach to Tarvisio is around 40 kilometres, and for the way back there is the MICOTRA train. On the water the region covers almost everything: sailing and surfing on the Ossiacher See, SUP and kayaking on the quieter Faaker See, plus waterskiing, wakeboarding and diving. You can usually hire equipment right on the shore. Between the big tours come the small things. The Actionbeach Silbersee is four kilometres away and has two free beach volleyball courts. The Kletterwald on the Ossiacher See offers 14 courses up to 25 metres high. You drive along the Villacher Alpenstraße to the Rosstratte, from where the Panoramaweg leads to the summit in about one and a half hours. The Jägersteig is the more demanding option and calls for sure footing. For mountain bikers the Trailcenter Faaker See lies on the Baumgartnerhöhe, with routes from an easy flow trail to a black run. In Drobollach there is also Carinthia’s largest asphalt pumptrack, around 3,000 square metres with its own children’s area. You can hike without climbing metres too. The Finsterbach hiking trail near Sattendorf leads past several waterfalls through a shady gorge in 45 to 60 minutes, far more pleasant on hot days than any summit. If you want to reach the starting point without a car, there are the bike buses. They take you and your bike to Tarvis, Spittal or the Faaker See, and you cycle back.
